KMT Chair emphasizes collective democratic reform (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu on Sunday (Nov. 12) emphasized that the third wave of democratic reform is a common goal, highlighting the need for collective negotiation, amid the stalemate between a potential "blue-white party alliance" for the 2024 presidential election.
Chu's comments came after Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je said a day earlier that he is open to nationwide polling to decide the final candidate combination for the presidential race, an approach favored by former President Ma Ying-jeou.
Chu underscored the resolve to uphold a negotiating spirit, pointing out that the KMT and the TPP have a consensus on implementing a national poll. The current differences lie in the content and rules of the poll.
He vowed to continually strive to uphold the spirit of democratic reform and negotiation, revealing that talks with Ko have never been interrupted.
