TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As the presidential election nears, the National Security Bureau (NSB) has revealed its "An-wei 8," or "Security Maintenance 8" operation in Taipei's Dazhi district on Thursday (Nov. 9).

The operation's mandate is to provide security for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates. The "An-wei 8" task force boasts 220 members, which includes 16 female bodyguards.

Should Terry Gou enter the race alongside candidates from the Democratic Progressive Party's Lai Ching-te, Kuomintang's Hou Yu-ih, and Taiwan People's Party's Ko Wen-je, each team will be allocated 55 personnel.

The operations are set to commence following the Central Election Commission's finalization of the candidate list.

The NSB showcased their investment in security during an on-site demonstration, revealing newly acquired Ford Ranger modified double-cabin bulletproof patrol vehicles and Land Rover guard vehicles, accompanied by two black Labrador Retriever sniffer dogs. For the duration of the election, 11 detection dogs will be on standby.

To enhance protection against solitary attackers, the NSB has added to its arsenal new active BARRETT MRAD sniper rifles and NVLS thermal imagery equipment used by U.S. special forces. This expansion in capability is complemented by the introduction of innovative gunshot detectors that can swiftly locate and neutralize hostile forces.

Furthermore, the Ford double-cabin bulletproof patrol vehicle made its debut, equipped with cutting-edge technology designed to accurately recreate scenes through video in specific situations. Such robust security measures are crucial to guarantee a safe presidential election period in Taiwan.
