Economics Minister disputes power shortage claims (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua stated on Monday (Nov. 6) that the number of days when standby capacity falls below 6% has significantly decreased in recent years, adding that no power shortage has occurred in 2023.
Wang discredited former President Ma Ying-jeou's claims of power shortages under the Democratic Progressive Party's governance, stating that they were inconsistent with the facts.
Since President Tsai Ing-wen took office, many improvements have been made to the power scheduling mechanism, significantly enhancing the power supply stability, explained Wang.
In response to the power cuts that occurred on May 13 and May 17, 2021, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has decided to invest over NT＄500 billion in improvements over the next decade.
The MOEA has planned a power supply through 2030 with an additional 9.1 million kilowatts, excluding renewable energy.
The added kilowatts will meet the increased power demand of 7 million kilowatts over the next seven years.
