Estonia allows Taiwan to establish rep. office in Tallinn

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Estonian government agreed to allow Taiwan to establish an economic or cultural representative office in Tallinn, Estonia's capital, under the name "Taipei," reported Estonia's public broadcaster ERR News on Saturday (Nov. 4).

The announcement came a day after Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized the importance of Estonia's relationships with Taiwan in various fields, including economics, education, culture, and civil society organizations. 

Despite his country's non-recognition of Taiwan as a country, Tsahkna expressed support for Taiwan's participation in international affairs related to global interests, including pandemic resistance and involvement in the World Health Organization (WHO).

Tsahkna stressed Estonia's eagerness for the Chinese government to align with the European Union (EU) while establishing cooperative relationships with similarly-minded partners.

Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu is scheduled to visit Estonia next week, according to reports. 

During his visit, Wu will participate in a seminar at the International Centre for Defense and Security, located in Tallinn. 

This significant move provides another platform for continued essential economic and cultural exchanges between Estonia and Taiwan.
