Tainan reports decrease in traffic fatalities (TVBS News)

TAINAN (TVBS News) — Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che announced on Tuesday (Oct. 31) that traffic fatalities in the city have decreased by 4% from January to August. 

During the city's latest road safety meeting, Tainan Bureau of Transportation Director-General Wang Ming-te also noted a decrease in the number of commonly seen motorbike accidents and incidents involving elderly people, down by 7.9%, and 6%, respectively.

 


The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) identified 1,000 chaotic traffic junctions across the country that need improvement, 26 of which are in Tainan. The MOTC also targeted an additional eight locations in the city for improvement.

Tainan has made remarkable progress regarding pedestrian safety, especially in the "Exclusive Pedestrian Phase and Early Start Phase" indicator. As of Oct. 20, the city has added improvements to 111 spots, recording the highest increase nationwide in this safety measure.
