Contentious legislators excluded from Defense Committee: Ko (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Amid controversy over Taiwan People's Party's (TPP) list of legislator-at-large nominees, chairman Ko Wen-je asserted on Sunday (Oct. 29) that contentious legislators would not serve on the Foreign and National Defense Committee.
While attending the campaign office opening of TPP legislator Jang Chyi-lu, Ko addressed concerns about Chinese spouses potentially joining the committee.
These concerns arise from the recent news about Xu Chunying, the president of the Taiwan Association for the Development of New Immigrants, who is allegedly on the list of TPP's legislator-at-large nominees and a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Ko reiterated that the TPP would confront these issues head-on, adding that if individuals with the Republic of China national identification cards are not allowed to participate in politics, then Taiwan isn't adhering to the rule of law.
Ko also said that if mainland spouses were indeed elected to the Legislative Yuan, TPP would set a precedent to exclude them from the Foreign and National Defense Committee, and pointed out that committees related to health, environment, and internal affairs shouldn't pose major issues.
