Taiwan raises cash prizes for Paris Olympics winners (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee President Lin Hong-dow announced Saturday (Oct. 29) that the cash prizes for winners at the 2024 Paris Olympics will increase. Bronze medals will receive NT$1,000,000, silver NT$2,000,000, and gold NT$5,000,000.
The announcement came during a celebratory banquet held by the Hungtao Sports Development Foundation (財團法人宏道運動發展基金會) to honor the outstanding performance of Taiwanese athletes at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
During the banquet, the foundation awarded Taiwanese athletes cash prizes. Artistic gymnasts Shiao Yu-jan and Lin Guan-yi, middleweight boxer Chen Nien-chin, and table tennis player Lin Yun-ju, all bronze medalists, each received a cash prize of NT$150,000.
Silver medalist swimmer Wang Kuan-hung, taekwondo player Lin Wei-chun, boxer Lai Chu-en, and Kan Chia-wei each received NT$250,000. Boxer Lin Yu-ting and judoka Yang Yung-wei, who both clinched gold medals, bagged NT$500,000 each.
Lin Hong-dow further expressed his hopes for Taiwan to climb the ranks of the world's sporting powerhouses, aiming for a top-five finish in the Asian Games and a top-20 finish in the Olympics.
Lin also stated that he looks forward to sports occupying a more meaningful place in citizens' lives.
