TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an toured the recently upgraded Taipei Dome on Friday (Oct. 27) in preparation for international competitions scheduled for November and December.
Chiang noted that the dome has been 32 years in the making and stressed its top-notch standards, a point that has also been confirmed by officials from Major League Baseball through prior inspections.
The mayor emphasized the importance of the new baseball field after torrential rains had previously disrupted a championship game of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) at the Taipei Arena.
Since that time, efforts have been underway to provide Taiwanese baseball fans with an appropriate alternative venue.
Chiang said the city government plans to hold two test games between Nov. 10 and Nov. 20 to evaluate the dome's facilities.
Fans will be able to purchase tickets to these friendly matches ahead of the Asian Baseball Championship in December.
Chiang expressed his hope that the newly completed dome will serve as a gathering spot for baseball fans of all ages and provide a venue where everyone can enjoy the games together.
