KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — The Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation (KRTC) announced a major update in the construction of the Circular light rail on Wednesday (Oct. 25) as the final track of its rail line is successfully welded. It is expected to start transporting passengers in January 2024.
In response to an inquiry from the city council, KRTC director Wu Yei-long assured the public that all road traffic controls causing public inconvenience would be lifted at the end of the month, prioritizing the well-being of local residents.
The KRTC also confirmed seven new stations will be set up once the circumferential route is complete. Additional trains will be added in line with increased demand due to holidays and major events.
Despite receiving reports of ten light rail collisions with cars, the KRTC asserted that the cause was not based on the light rail system. It plans to deploy tech law enforcement at 42 additional locations along the line to reduce traffic incidents.
