Deputy Minister condemns maneuvering in vaccine dispute (Wang Pi-sheng/Facebook)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Wang Pi-sheng expressed concerns on Wednesday (Oct. 25) over banning specific flu vaccine brands in schools, which he views as an inappropriate political maneuver that uses students as tools.
With the onset of the annual flu season in October, the government has approved a new vaccine from Medigen, introduced by South Korean vaccine manufacturer GC Biopharma.
However, rumors of the public refusing to get Medigen vaccines have prompted some counties and cities to ban its use in schools.
Wang wrote in a Facebook post that the government is responsible for assisting its citizens in making informed decisions besides listening to public opinion.
Wang believes that decisions surrounding flu vaccinations, which he describes as a "mature and simple" scientific issue, should be easily judged based on scientific evidence.
