KMT, TPP to hold election alliance negotiations (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The inaugural staff negotiation between the Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) of the Blue-White Coalition is slated for Saturday afternoon (Oct.14).
TPP presidential candidate Ko Wen-je has deputized his campaign director, Huang Shan-shan, and office director, Chou Yu-hsiu, for the negotiations. They will discuss this with Hou Yu-ih's campaign manager, King Pu-tsung, and KMT's Secretary General, Justin Huang.
As Ko describes, negotiations will center around opinion polls and debates. On the other hand, Hou indicated that no limits would be imposed on the contents of the discussion.
On Friday's TVBS Situation Room, Ko claimed his odds of victory would dramatically increase in a head-to-head showdown, especially if he secured independent candidate Terry Gou's support. During his interview, Ko maintained his belief in "trusting numbers and the willingness to accept defeat."
In contrast, Hou underscores the importance of opinion polls as a vital reference but not the sole decisive factor. He proposed a layered discussion involving six directions, including protection of the Republic of China constitution, opposing both Taiwan independence and one country, two systems, and promoting the Blue-White Coalition.
Hou's campaign spokesperson, Lee Li-chen, suggested conducting press conferences before and after negotiations and recording all meetings. The videos should only be released if disputes arise.
