THSR apologizes for massive crowds at Taichung station (TVBS NEWS)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) issued an apology on Monday (Oct. 2) over the massive crowds experienced at its Taichung station a day earlier, as people were returning after the four-day Moon Festival holidays.
In preparation for the upcoming National Day holiday, the THSR promised to continue fulfilling their duty by enhancing passenger guidance, diverting passengers accordingly, and improving crowd control measures to ensure travelers can ride safely and smoothly.
Large numbers of passengers crowded the unreserved seat areas, causing lines to extend outside the station, with some travelers waiting for up to three hours on Sunday without successfully boarding a train.
According to THSR data, from the start of the Mid-Autumn festival holiday until Sunday, nearly 1.01 million traveled on their trains over four days.
The data also showed that more than 338,000 travelers took the THSR on Sunday, marking the highest single-day count since the railway's inception.
This figure notably surpassed the 318,250 passengers transported on the last day of the 2019 Mid-Autumn festival holiday, seeing an increase of over 20,000 commuters.
