Pediatrician warns against RSV symptoms in infants, toddlers (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese pediatrician Wu Chang-teng alerted parents on Facebook Tuesday (Sept. 26) about the symptoms of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in infants and toddlers: persistent coughing, heavy sputum, and wheezing.

Dr. Wu urged parents to stay vigilant as these symptoms can advance into severe conditions like bronchiolitis, bronchospasm, pneumonia, and acute respiratory failure.

RSV can also cause temporary cessation of breathing in children and, in severe cases, result in sudden death, warned Wu.

He noted a significant uptick in pediatric emergency admissions recently due to the proliferation of various viruses.

Given the gravity of the situation, he stressed the importance of immediate medical attention if a child exhibits any of the symptoms mentioned above.
