Two foreigners from Germany and the Czech Republic escaped to Tokyo after vandalizing MRT carriages.
TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwanese authorities reported that two foreigners from Germany and the Czech Republic escaped to Tokyo after being identified as the culprits behind the vandalism of MRT carriages in Taichung and Kaohsiung.
The MRT carriages sustained extensive damage due to graffiti vandalism on Aug. 24, after which Taichung MRT employees immediately reported the act upon discovering the graffiti.
Forming a task force, detectives from the Wuri Precinct, Sanhe Police Station, and the Criminal Investigation Corps launched an investigation directed by prosecutors.
The combined force, involving nearly 200 police personnel, filtered through over 120 intersections and private surveillance cameras to identify both suspects.
The alleged perpetrators, identified as German and Czech nationals, are being investigated under Article 354 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of China and the Mass Rapid Transit Act. The Taichung and Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office subsequently issued arrest warrants.
The suspects, entering on tourist visas, skilfully avoided surveillance systems, using various means of transport, including walking. A day after their crime, the suspects fled Taiwan.
