TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan assured Taiwan on Wednesday (July 5) that it would have sufficient electricity and urged the continuation of green energy development.
During the members' meeting of the Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce (CNAIC) on Tuesday (July 4), Chairman Thomas T.L. Wu expressed concerns about Taiwan's power shortage and lack of green energy.
He directed his remarks to the Taiwan government, highlighting that the country not only faces nuclear power issues but also needs to reassess its power supply.
In response, Cheng stressed that, according to the plans of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Taipower, Taiwan's electricity supply would remain stable and not face shortages.
Cheng emphasized the dedicated efforts of the Tsai administration over the past eight years in ensuring Taiwan's power sufficiency.
"During President Tsai's term of office, seven power plants were upgraded, while under President Ma's term, only one power plant's renovation was approved," he said. "Without these eight years of hard work, Taiwan would have experienced a power shortage crisis."
Cheng also reiterated the government's determination to develop various forms of green energy.
"Whether it's solar power, wind power, or even geothermal energy, we are working diligently," he said. "We have also revised the 'Renewable Energy Development Act'."
