TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A stationary front impacted Taiwan on Thursday (May 14), bringing prolonged rainfall, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) and meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩). The front will bring rain from Thursday to Friday (May 15), affecting regions from central to northern Taiwan with continuous showers or thunderstorms.
The CWA noted that areas from central to northern Taiwan, as well as Kinmen and Matsu, will experience brief showers or thunderstorms on Thursday. Other regions, including Penghu, may also see scattered rain, with a higher chance of heavy rain in mountainous areas in the afternoon. The front will move to the Bashi Channel on Friday, bringing brief showers to the eastern regions, with a chance of heavier rain.
The eastern regions and Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) will continue to see isolated showers from Saturday (May 16) to Monday (May 18), while other areas will enjoy partly cloudy to sunny skies. Most regions may experience partly cloudy to sunny weather on Tuesday (May 19), with the eastern, southeastern regions, and Hengchun Peninsula possibly seeing scattered showers. The weather will return to more stable conditions by Tuesday.
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) warned of lightning, strong winds, and sudden heavy downpours during this period. The stationary front will also cause a noticeable cooling effect as persistent rain and incoming cold air lead to temperature changes across Taiwan. Residents can expect cooler conditions on Thursday morning.
