TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese artist Chang Ling (常陵) opened his solo exhibition, "If My Homeland" (假如故鄉), on Friday (April 17) at the ODRADEK Residence XL gallery in Brussels. The exhibition, running until May 15, explores the concept of "homeland" through memory, identity and cultural fluidity. Taiwan's representative to the EU and Belgium, Shieh Jhy-wey (謝志偉), attended the opening.
Chang described "homeland" as a dynamic process, constantly added to, moved and distorted. "For this generation, whether in terms of self-positioning or the loss and reorganization of memory. The concept of 'homeland' is worth pondering," Chang said. The exhibition is a collaboration between Taiwan's Yiyun Art (異雲書屋) and Belgium's ODRADEK Residence.
Shieh said cultural events play a role in promoting Taiwan abroad. "There are many opportunities to interact with local people and discuss Taiwan in depth through the concept of culture and with the artist on-site. Cultural exchanges like this play a crucial role in Taiwan's diplomacy," Shieh said. Chang personally introduced Shieh to his works and creative ideas at the opening.
Chang's series portrays "homeland" as an organic entity that transforms along the boundaries of consciousness, breathing time and absorbing emotions. By layering images and information, the work suggests that memory is shaped by society, technology and collective experience rather than personal ownership alone. The opening drew art enthusiasts, scholars and translators from various nationalities. ◼
