TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) broke ground Friday (April 17) on a key segment of the Metro Circular Line Eastern Section, a project that will slash travel time between Xiangshan Station and Taipei Zoo Station from 26 minutes to four minutes. The Eastern Section spans approximately 13.25 km (8.2 miles) and will feature 10 underground stations and one underground depot.
The CF720 section, the second of six segments in the Eastern Section, will stretch along Ruiguang Road (瑞光路) and Ruiguang Park (瑞光公園) to establish the Y33 Ruiguang Park Station. Tunnels will cross National Freeway No. 1 (國道一號) before reaching the Y34 Traffic (TESLA) Station near Minquan East Road Section 6 (民權東路六段). The Eastern Section will connect six existing and planned Metro lines.

The CF720 section will span approximately 1.83 km (1.1 miles), incorporating two underground stations, two shield tunnels and electrical, water and environmental control systems, the Taipei City Government's Department of Rapid Transit Systems (北市政府捷運工程局) said. The First District Project Office (第一區工程處) said the stations will use cut-and-cover construction, while shield tunneling will be employed for the tunnel portions.
