TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A spring rain front swept through Taiwan on Friday (April 17), bringing showers to northern and eastern regions, with temperatures ranging from 28°C to 33°C (82°F to 91°F). Meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩) warned the public to remain alert to weather changes, especially after noon, as conditions shift from hot and humid mornings to afternoon rainfall.
Lin forecast that the northeast and eastern regions could experience heavy afternoon rain due to thermal effects, while northern lowland areas may also see precipitation. Central and southern lowlands will remain cloudy, and Penghu is expected to see mostly sunny to cloudy skies. Kinmen and Matsu, Taiwan's outlying islands near China, may face brief showers or thunderstorms.
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said northern and northeastern Taiwan will experience brief rains Friday afternoon, with conditions expected to shift over the weekend. The rain is expected to expand on Saturday, potentially bringing cooler weather to northern Taiwan as the front moves through. Wu warned of increased moisture next week, urging caution against sudden downpours that could affect commuters and outdoor activities.
From Sunday to Tuesday, dry air will bring clearer, more stable weather across Taiwan, with significant temperature differences between day and night. However, Wednesday will see unstable atmospheric conditions, with partly cloudy skies and afternoon showers expected in the mountainous and eastern regions, Wu said. Occasional light rain may occur in Hualien and Taitung during the drier period. ◼
