TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued a weather advisory on Thursday (April 16), warning of unstable conditions with scattered showers expected across northern and central regions and cloudy skies in the south and east. The agency urged caution for coastal activities as Typhoon Sinlaku's path increases the likelihood of swells along the northern coast, eastern regions, and Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島).
Lin De-en (林得恩), an atmospheric scientist at National Taiwan University (台灣大學), forecast increased rainfall from Friday through Sunday due to a new spring rain front and the northeast monsoon. Lin said localized showers are expected across much of the island during this period, with northern and central Taiwan seeing the heaviest precipitation.
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said Typhoon Sinlaku will turn sharply south of Japan, posing no direct threat to Taiwan. He noted a chance of scattered showers in northern Taiwan on Thursday as the storm passes. Wu added that a weak front passing from Friday afternoon through Saturday will bring cloudy skies to the north and scattered showers in the northeast.
Wu said Taiwan will experience dry air from Sunday through Tuesday, resulting in clear, stable weather with warmer daytime temperatures and significant day-night temperature differences. Occasional showers are expected in the east during this period, he added. Residents should prepare for temperature swings between morning and afternoon hours. ◼
