TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Rain will increase across northern and eastern Taiwan as a new weather front approaches Friday (April 17), the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national weather agency, said Thursday (April 16). Temperatures will drop slightly Saturday and Sunday as a northeast monsoon strengthens, the agency said.
WeatherRisk (天氣風險), a private weather forecasting company, said Thursday will bring cloudy skies and isolated showers to northern coastal and northeastern regions, with sporadic rain in central and northern areas. Central and northern areas, the east and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) will see cloudy to overcast skies with scattered showers over the weekend. Temperatures will drop, particularly in the north and northeast, where highs will fall to 24°C to 26°C (75°F to 79°F).
CWA forecaster Cheng Chieh-jen (鄭傑仁) said higher moisture Thursday will bring brief scattered showers to central and northern Taiwan and Yilan. The approaching front will bring more rain from Taoyuan northward and to the eastern half, he said. Conditions will remain unstable through the weekend.
The northeast monsoon will strengthen as the front passes Saturday, bringing a temperature drop to the north and Yilan, Cheng said. From Saturday night through Sunday morning, central to northern regions, the eastern half, Hengchun and southern mountainous areas will see isolated showers. By Sunday, moisture levels will decrease, with only the Hengchun Peninsula, eastern regions and central and southern mountainous areas seeing cloudy to overcast conditions with isolated showers. ◼
