TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A weak frontal system brought sporadic showers to northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan on Wednesday (April 15), with meteorologists warning of continued instability through the weekend. Meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩) said higher chances of rain are expected north of Taoyuan and in Yilan.
Another spring rain front will approach Friday, bringing scattered showers to areas north of Taoyuan and to northeastern and eastern regions, Lin said. Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national weather agency, forecaster Huang En-hung (黃恩鴻) said Saturday will see increased rainfall as the front moves through. Intermittent rain is expected throughout the day in central and northern Taiwan and the eastern half. Mountainous areas in the central and southern regions will also see rain, along with a drop in temperatures.
Meteorologist Wu De-rong (吳德榮) said from Sunday through Tuesday, dry air will move southward, clearing Taiwan's skies and leading to larger temperature swings between day and night. Meanwhile, Typhoon Sinlaku is currently situated north of Guam and will continue moving north-northwest before turning south of Japan. Environmental westerly wind shear will gradually weaken its structure there, the CWA said. The agency confirmed Sinlaku poses no threat to Taiwan. ◼
