TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A weather front will bring rain to northern and eastern Taiwan on Wednesday (April 15), with a stronger system expected from Friday through the weekend. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) said residents from Taoyuan to the northeast should expect sporadic showers. Forecaster Lin Ting-yi (林定宜) added that central and southern mountainous regions may see scattered afternoon rain.
Lin noted that Typhoon Sinlaku, the fourth typhoon of the year, could bring swells on Thursday. Intermittent showers will persist along Keelung's northern coast, in the central and northern regions, and in the northeast on Thursday. Mountainous areas across the island should expect localized afternoon showers. A stronger front and enhanced northeast monsoon from Friday through Sunday will bring unstable weather to the north, east and Hengchun (恆春).
Lin said the northeast monsoon will intensify Saturday, causing sporadic showers in the north, east, Hengchun and southern mountains, while the south will remain mostly cloudy. Moisture will shift southward by Sunday, affecting Hualien, Taitung and the central and southern mountains with scattered showers. The monsoon will weaken Monday, allowing temperatures to rise in the north and northeast, though Hualien and Taitung will continue to see local showers.
Weather forecasting company WeatherRisk (天氣風險) predicted a weak front Wednesday will bring cloudy to overcast conditions with occasional rain in northern and northeastern areas. Other regions will remain mostly cloudy to clear, with afternoon showers possible in central and southern mountainous areas. Thursday will see similar weather patterns as moisture persists in the atmosphere.
