TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) is scheduled to meet Chinese Communist Party (CCP, 中國共產黨) General Secretary Xi Jinping (習近平) in Beijing on Friday (April 10) morning. The meeting at the Great Hall of the People (人民大會堂) would be the first between the leaders of the two parties in nearly a decade.
Cheng arrived in Beijing on Thursday as part of a scheduled visit to China, which also includes stops in Jiangsu and Shanghai. The meeting is expected to begin at 10 a.m., though final arrangements could still change, according to publicly available reports. Cheng and Xi are expected to hold both open and closed-door sessions, with the KMT delegation, mainland affairs officials and invited advisers expected to attend.
Cheng scheduled an international press conference for 2 p.m. at the China World Hotel (中國大飯店) in Beijing following the meeting. She said earlier that she accepted Xi's invitation and described the trip as aimed at promoting cross-strait peace and dialogue. Cheng said she was willing to meet President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) either before or after the trip.
The KMT has not publicly released full details of Cheng's Beijing schedule beyond the meeting and related activities. The delegation may attend other engagements later Friday, though some arrangements remained unclear as of Friday morning. Details on additional meetings or events were not immediately available. ◼
