TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) (鴻海精密工業股份有限公司) hosted its "2026 Hon Hai Sports Carnival" at the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋) on Thursday (Feb. 12), where founder Terry Gou (郭台銘) surprised employees with a NT$300 million (approximately US$9.5 million) bonus. Ten employees received NT$10 million (approximately US$318,231.14) each, marking a generous gesture from the tech giant.
During the event, Group founder Terry Gou added NT$300 million to the prize pool, with 10 employees each receiving NT$10 million and 1,000 others getting NT$200,000 (approximately US$6,364.62). However, a twist occurred when four employees missed out on their NT$10 million prize due to absence, necessitating a redraw. Chairman Young Liu (劉揚偉) had earlier advised employees, "You'll regret not staying until the end", emphasizing the need for winners to be present to claim their prizes.
The event featured newlyweds Hank Chen (陳漢典) and Lulu as hosts, with cheerleading icons Dahye Lee (李多慧), Mizuki Lin (林襄), and Kwon Hee-Won (權喜原) making appearances. Singers Jeannie Hsieh (謝金燕) and Ricky Hsiao (蕭煌奇) performed, transforming the latter part of the event into a concert.
Netizens on Threads humorously discussed the situation, noting, "The year-end party raffle is an unmissable event". Speculation arose about the absent employees' reasons, ranging from long commutes to disinterest in the performances. Hon Hai reported participation from overseas employees from the U.S, China, and India, highlighting the event's global reach.
The event featured six teams, including central and local divisions and subsidiaries, competing for the championship. During his speech, Liu thanked employees, noting the group's revenue surpassed NT$8 trillion (approximately US$254.5 billion) last year, and expressed hopes for continued success. (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.44)
