TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The CTBC Brothers (中信兄弟) from the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL, 中華職棒) announced on Friday (Jan. 23) that they have signed right-handed pitchers Kyle Tyler and Nick Nelson, both with Major League Baseball (MLB) experience. The team expected the two pitchers to arrive in Taiwan before the Lunar New Year.
Nelson, who played for the Philadelphia Phillies, demonstrated his composure under pressure in Game 3 of the 2022 World Series. He pitched one scoreless inning against the Houston Astros, helping secure a victory for his team. In 2022, Nelson appeared in 47 games, striking out 69 batters, further proving his capability to handle innings and strikeouts.
Tyler, a University of Oklahoma graduate, was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2018 and made his MLB debut in 2021 with three scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers. In 2023, Tyler transitioned to a starting role with the Seattle Mariners' Double-A team, setting career highs with 135 innings pitched and 138 strikeouts, demonstrating his ability to suppress opponents effectively.
In 2025, Nelson played for Japan's Hanshin Tigers, gaining experience in knowing Asian batters' habits and game rhythms. As a starter for the CTBC Brothers, his experience in Japan positions him well for success in the Taiwanese league. With a foreign starting rotation for the new season settled, the CTBC Brothers hopes Tyler and Nelson will deliver strong performances with their health and MLB-level skills.
