TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foxconn (鴻海) and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) announced a joint venture to launch a bus company on Thursday (Jan. 22), with Katsuto Kora, the current head of MFTBC's Bus Division, set to become the CEO. The new company plans to begin operations in the latter half of this year, according to a press release.
Foxconn emphasized that this partnership with MFTBC marks a new phase in their collaboration, aiming to accelerate the development of competitive zero-emission buses. The initiative addresses the growing societal demand for high-quality public transportation. The new buses will be developed and manufactured at the Toyama plant in Japan, leveraging FUSO's 90-year legacy. The company will establish its headquarters in Kawasaki, Japan.
MFTBC and Foxconn aim to finalize the transaction by the second half of the year, pending final agreements and approvals from respective boards, shareholders, and government regulators. Jun Seki, Foxconn's Chief of Electric Vehicle Strategy, stated that mobility is a strategic focus for Foxconn and that this collaboration with MFTBC will provide comprehensive electrification solutions for Japan's transportation ecosystem.
MFTBC, based in Kawasaki, Japan, is 89.29% owned by Daimler Truck AG and 10.71% by various Mitsubishi Group companies. In August 2025, MFTBC and Foxconn signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate in the zero-emission sector. The partnership involves their subsidiaries, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Manufacturing Company (MFBM) and Foxtron, and focuses on the development of the Model T and Model U as the initial collaborative vehicle models.
