TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan has sufficient electricity supply to meet future demands through 2032, including AI and advanced semiconductor needs, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Ho Chin-tsang (何晉滄) said Thursday (Jan. 15). Ho addressed concerns raised by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TSMC, 台積電), the world's largest contract chipmaker, Chairman C.C. Wei (魏哲家) at an earnings call.
The government prioritizes electricity supply as a core issue, conducting ongoing reviews through the national power resources supply and demand report, Ho emphasized. Taiwan will maintain adequate electricity supply until 2032 according to the latest government assessment released by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The government has integrated AI industry and advanced semiconductor production needs into its power planning.
Last year's power supply and demand survey confirmed stable electricity availability, with no shortages anticipated before 2032, Ho stated. He urged all sectors to remain confident in the government's proactive measures to ensure a robust and resilient power system for Taiwan's economy. The government has implemented strategic power planning to address future electricity needs and maintain supply stability. ◼
