TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's export performance in the information and communication technology, semiconductor, and AI server supply chains has shone over the past year, according to Huang Chih-fang (黃志芳), the chairman of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (外貿協會). However, traditional industries face significant pressure, underscoring the severe challenges posed by AI applications and automation.
Huang made these remarks during the annual press conference of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). He noted that the Taiwan-U.S. tariff negotiations have entered the final stage. "If the negotiations yield concrete results, the government will promptly inform the public," Huang assured.
Huang emphasized the urgency for all industries, including traditional sectors, to accelerate AI integration to enhance competitiveness. "Our competitors have fully embraced AI applications, especially Chinese companies, which show strong ambition. Taiwan's businesses cannot afford to be complacent," Huang warned, describing the scenario as a battle that must not be lost.
Amid recent large-scale anti-government protests in Iran, concerns have arisen about the safety of TAITRA personnel at the Taipei Trade Center in Tehran. Huang stated that although communication sometimes faces disruptions, he maintains daily contact with the director stationed there. He revealed that an evacuation plan is in place, and they will continue to closely monitor the situation, ready to coordinate with government agencies for necessary responses.
