TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung City Fire Bureau (高雄市消防局) conducted a fire safety inspection at a hypermarket in Cianjhen District (前鎮區) on Monday (Jan. 12), confirming the mall's compliance with safety regulations. The inspection, led by Deputy Chief Peng Pao-ching (彭保景) of the First Battalion, targeted areas with high foot traffic to ensure safety measures were in place.
The hypermarket, situated near the Asia New Bay Area (亞洲新灣區), draws significant crowds due to its convenient location among residential and commercial buildings. The Fire Bureau (消防局) evaluated the mall's fire hydrants, automatic sprinklers, smoke exhaust systems, fire alarms, and emergency broadcasts. Additionally, they also checked for obstructions in escape routes and stairwells.
Inspectors confirmed that the mall's maintenance declarations and fire management met standards. They also conducted a fire scenario drill with the mall's self-defense fire brigade to improve emergency response capabilities and assess evacuation procedures. Deputy Chief Peng emphasized the importance of enhancing fire drills and evacuation measures, especially during the Lunar New Year, given the mall's large stock of flammable goods.
Fire Bureau team member Wang Yu-sung (王雨松) disclosed plans to inspect other high-traffic venues, such as hotels, and reminded business owners to adhere to fire safety regulations. Wang warned that violations would result in penalties under Articles 38 and 40 of the Fire Services Act (消防法).
