TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City government aims to sign the land rights agreement with Nvidia before the Lunar New Year holiday, Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) announced on Wednesday (Dec. 17). The city initiated the urban planning change process on Dec. 10, with the public exhibition phase set to conclude in one month, Chiang added after inspecting the T17 and T18 sites where the AI chipmaker's facility will be located.
Deputy Mayor Li Ssu-chuan (李四川) will lead a review meeting to merge the T17 and T18 sites following the exhibition period. "If all goes well, the contract could be signed before the Lunar New Year," the mayor said, expressing optimism about the timeline.
Chiang described Nvidia's headquarters at Taipei's Beitou Shilin Technology Park (BSTP, 北士科) as a transformative development that will establish Taipei as a major AI hub. "It is not just a massive building, but the world's strongest AI heart for Taipei," he said. The mayor emphasized the importance of this development for both Taipei and Taiwan, attributing the progress to the city's sustained efforts since his administration began three years ago.
Chiang outlined short, medium, and long-term transportation plans to address potential traffic impacts, including shuttles, dedicated bus lanes, light rail, and a metro corridor. The city has committed to integrating production, living, and ecology in the area, completing a housing project and planning 500 social housing units. These measures aim to support the influx of workers expected at the new NVIDIA facility.
