TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Sundance Film Festival (日舞影展) announced on Friday (Dec. 12) the inclusion of "Bedford Park" in its main competition, marking a historic first for a Taiwanese-invested film. The film's entry into this prestigious independent film event underscores Taiwan's growing influence in the global film industry.
South Korean actors Son Seok-koo (孫錫求) and Choi Hee-Seo (崔嬉序) star in "Bedford Park," a collaboration between writer-director Stephanie Ahn and Gary Foster, the producer of "Sleepless in Seattle." Ching Chi (井琪), Far EasTone's (遠傳) general manager, stated that the film's selection highlights Taiwan's undeniable potential in the international film and television sector.
Ching emphasized Far EasTone's goal of building a globally competitive Taiwanese content ecosystem, noting this recognition as a significant milestone in expanding international perspectives and markets. The film tells the story of a Korean American woman struggling with her family's immigrant expectations and her American identity, as she embarks on an unexpected emotional journey after meeting a former wrestler with a troubled past.
Filmed and produced in the United States, "Bedford Park" features English dialogue throughout. Its presence at Sundance not only showcases the talent involved but also signifies the broader implications for Taiwanese cinema's place on the world stage. Audiences and industry professionals alike will be watching closely as the festival unfolds.
