TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A strengthening northeast monsoon brought intermittent rain to northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan on Thursday (Dec. 11), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象局). The administration noted that cooler weather will continue in the north and northeast on Friday, while central and southern regions will experience significant temperature differences between daytime and nighttime.
Meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩) projected that the most noticeable temperature drop will occur from Sunday (Dec. 14) night through the following Monday (Dec. 15) morning. Lin also warned that temperatures will further decrease after Dec. 15, making nighttime and early morning conditions across Taiwan particularly chilly.
Cheng Ming-dian (鄭明典) described two centers of high pressure influencing Taiwan's weather. The right center will enhance the northeast monsoon, bringing moisture but less significant cooling. Meanwhile, the left center will move eastward across the Tibetan Plateau before heading south, leading to rapid cooling and dry weather.
The CWA advised that starting Saturday (Dec. 13) night, a continental air mass will push southward, causing temperatures to drop significantly in the north and northeast. From Sunday to Dec. 15, colder weather will affect central and northern regions, as well as eastern areas, with only sporadic rain expected along the north coast of Keelung, the mountainous areas of Greater Taipei, eastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula.
