TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Terry Gou (郭台銘), founder of Hon Hai (鴻海), also known globally as Foxconn, made a surprise appearance at Hon Hai Technology Day on Friday (Nov. 21), marking his first major public event in months. The white-haired tech mogul appeared energetic as Foxconn showcased AI and electric vehicle breakthroughs alongside partnerships with major technology companies.

Foxconn Chairman Young-way Liu (劉揚偉) paid tribute to Gou's late mother, acknowledging her influence on the company's success. Liu stated that without Terry Gou, Foxconn would not exist in its current form. The appearance marked their first joint public event in a long time.

The event debuted Model A, a seven-seat electric vehicle with sliding doors and an elevated cabin design. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced a U.S. collaboration with Foxconn via a recorded message to develop AI infrastructure. Foxconn will handle manufacturing, while OpenAI will provide future hardware requirements, thereby strengthening local supply chains.

Spencer Huang, son of NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, represented his father to discuss AI humanoid robot applications. He expressed optimism that NVIDIA would solve challenges through its collaboration with Foxconn. First-generation humanoid robots equipped with NVIDIA's visual AI will grasp objects and undergo assembly training at a Texas plant.

The event demonstrates Foxconn's pivot toward AI-driven supply chains, spanning from humanoid robots to electric vehicles. HHTD25 continues until Saturday with public access on the second day. Taipei's Nangang Exhibition Center (南港展覽館) hosts speakers from IBM, ABB, and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation. ◼
