TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tech giant Hon Hai Technology Group (鴻海科技集團), also known globally as Foxconn, and OpenAI announced a strategic partnership Friday (Nov. 21) to manufacture advanced AI hardware in the United States. The collaboration will leverage OpenAI's expertise in artificial intelligence requirements while Hon Hai handles production at its American facilities.
The partnership aims to strengthen domestic AI production capacity and accelerate advanced system deployment throughout the United States. This collaboration marks the first step toward ensuring core technologies for the AI era can be manufactured domestically, according to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. He believes this work will strengthen America's leadership position and help ensure the benefits of AI reach more people.
The companies will jointly develop next-generation AI data center hardware, focusing on enhanced rack architecture and localized testing in American facilities. "Hon Hai is delighted to partner with OpenAI," Liu Yang-wei, chairman of Hon Hai, said. "As the world's largest AI server manufacturer, Hon Hai can support OpenAI's mission through reliable, scalable infrastructure, thereby accelerating innovation."
Hon Hai will produce essential AI data center components in the United States, including cables, networking, cooling, and power systems for high-performance computing infrastructure. The agreement gives OpenAI first rights to evaluate completed systems and procurement options without immediate purchase commitments or financial obligations. ◼
