TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Chair Cheng Li-wen (鄭麗文) will meet Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chair Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) Thursday (Nov. 19). The meeting at Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang (新莊凱悅嘉軒酒店) marks Cheng's first discussion with TPP since taking office.

KMT Vice Chair Hsiao Hsu-tsen (蕭旭岑) described the meeting as a gesture of goodwill between the opposition parties. He emphasized the 2026 election coalition will focus on local governance, prioritizing economic and livelihood issues over ideology. Deputy Chair Lee Chien-lung (李乾龍) will oversee election affairs with tailored polling coordination strategies.

Cheng's recent attendance at an autumn memorial event sparked political discussion among Taiwan's parties. Hsiao defended her participation, explaining she attended to honor White Terror (白色恐怖) , Taiwan's martial law period, victims and noted the event includes both KMT and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) , Taiwan's ruling party, figures. Hsiao also criticized Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's (高市早苗) remarks on Taiwan, calling them dangerous signals contradicting Japan's consistent policy. ◼
