TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Group of Seven (G7, 七大工業國集團) foreign ministers issued a joint statement on Thursday (Nov. 13) emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. They opposed any unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force or coercion. Regarding the statement, the Office of the President (總統府) expressed the G7's joint support for Taiwan.
The G7's statement supported Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations and highlighted the need for constructive dialogue to resolve cross-strait issues peacefully. The Presidential Office of Taiwan appreciated the G7 member states for their firm support. The Office of the President's spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧) stated that G7 member states have once again demonstrated their firm support for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, as well as for Taiwan’s international participation, through concrete actions. The Office of the President expressed its sincere gratitude.
Kuo said that the statement also addressed concerns about China's ongoing military expansion and rapid nuclear arsenal growth, urging Beijing to enhance transparency to demonstrate its commitment to regional stability. Additionally, the G7 expressed serious concern over dangerous actions in the South China Sea, including the use of water cannons and military coercion to restrict freedom of navigation and overflight.
Also, Kuo noted that Taiwan shares core values of democracy, freedom, and human rights with the G7 member states and welcomed the G7 foreign ministers' heightened attention to regional security. Furthermore, Kuo disclosed that Taiwan plans to deepen its cooperative partnership with the G7, working together to promote global human health and contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
