TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Food delivery platforms operated inconsistently across Taipei on Tuesday (Nov. 11) as Typhoon Fung-wong (鳳凰) triggered work suspensions, creating confusion for customers and delivery workers. Uber Eats continued to accept orders, while Foodpanda suspended services, despite official work stoppages affecting 12 villages in the capital. TVBS reporters confirmed delivery services remained available in some areas, including Cuishan Village (翠山里).
TVBS reporters successfully ordered coffee at Cuishan Village at 10:34 a.m. after a 50-minute wait, exposing system failures in emergency protocols. The delivery worker accepted the order because Uber Eats failed to notify drivers about work suspensions, while Foodpanda completely blocked orders during the typhoon. Uber Eats confirmed it is investigating the service inconsistencies that left workers unaware of official suspension orders.
Taipei authorities suspended work and classes in 12 villages, including Linxi Village (臨溪里) in Shilin District (士林區), to ensure public safety during extreme weather. Beitou District (北投區) on Yangmingshan (陽明山) experienced nearly complete work stoppages as officials prioritized accident prevention during typhoon conditions. The emergency measures significantly disrupted the delivery ecosystem across affected areas.◼
