TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Fung-wong (鳳凰) triggered severe flooding across Yilan County on Tuesday (Nov. 11), forcing authorities to suspend work and classes as rainfall exceeded 500 millimeters. The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署), Taiwan's weather bureau, issued extremely heavy rain warnings as the typhoon's outer circulation and northeast seasonal winds inundated Taiwan's eastern region.

Dongshan Township (冬山鄉) fields transformed into ponds while roads became rivers as floodwaters engulfed Yilan County's agricultural areas. Elevated houses and protective walls prevented indoor flooding, although residents in Zhuangwei Township (壯圍鄉) had to wade through submerged fields. Officials report widespread agricultural damage across multiple townships.

Officials cordoned off multiple areas after water levels exceeded 40 centimeters (15.7 inches) in culverts, trapping vehicles across affected townships. Wujie Township (五結鄉) experienced canal overflow onto roads as village leaders blocked flood-prone sections for public safety. Emergency response teams deployed barriers to prevent further vehicle entrapment.

Sanxing Township (三星鄉) drivers encountered tire-deep flooding that severely reduced visibility and navigation capabilities. Yilan County residents stockpiled food supplies and remained indoors as typhoon conditions intensified across the region. Local authorities advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. ◼
