TAIPEI (TVBS News) — NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang arrived in Taiwan on Friday (Nov. 7) afternoon, marking the beginning of a significant visit aimed at strengthening ties with local technology leaders. Huang's first stop included a visit to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC, 台積電) 3-nanometer plant in Tainan, highlighting the importance of collaboration between NVIDIA and TSMC in advancing semiconductor technology.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) emphasized the city's efforts to facilitate NVIDIA's expansion in Taipei. He announced that the Taipei city government has engaged accountants to review the NT$4.47 billion termination fee and vouchers submitted by Shin Kong Life Insurance (新壽) to resolve a dispute over the use of its land for the NVIDIA campus. Chiang expressed optimism that the termination procedures would conclude by next week, paving the way for NVIDIA to establish a branch in the city.
Lin Wei-chun (林維俊), general manager of Taishin Financial Holdings (台新新光金控), noted that once accountants confirm the details, the board of directors must approve the termination. He anticipated that the process would proceed smoothly next week, aligning with Chiang's expectations for a swift resolution.
Chiang urged NVIDIA to cease communications with the Taipei city government via its Singapore branch, advocating for direct engagement within Taipei. He revealed that NVIDIA's headquarters will be located in the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (北士科), underscoring the city's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for tech giants.
