TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Jingzaijiao Tile-paved Salt Fields in Beimen (台南北門井仔腳鹽田) reopened Thursday (Oct. 16) after three months of restoration following Typhoon Danas (丹娜絲颱風) devastation. The historic site sustained nearly NT$10 million (around US$326,800) in damage from the storm. Salt field operator Chen Jen-chang (陳仁昌) confirmed restoration efforts preserved and reinforced the container house structures.
The salt fields launch a month-long Light Sculpting Landscape Art event on Saturday (Oct. 18) to celebrate the reopening. The exhibition features light displays and 3D projections running every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through Nov. 15. Shows occur every 30 minutes between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., promising to draw crowds back to the restored site.
The light show features a collaboration with popular LINE sticker character SHAHIMI (胖鯊魚鯊西米), attracting numerous visitors during trial phases. Tourists expressed surprise at the swift restoration and praised the stunning sunset views at the historic salt fields. The character partnership adds modern appeal to the traditional heritage site.
The Light Sculpting Art Festival connects with major attractions in the Southwest Coast National Scenic Area Headquarters (雲嘉南濱海國家風景區), Taiwan's coastal tourism authority, to revitalize tourism disrupted by Typhoon Danas. Anticipation builds among locals and tourists eager to experience the unique blend of art and nature. The festival represents a crucial step in regional tourism recovery efforts. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$30.6)
