TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (氣象署), Taiwan's national weather service, warned temperatures in northern and eastern Taiwan will drop to 28 degrees Celsius (82.4°F) from Sunday as Typhoon Fengshen (風神) approaches. The tropical system intensified Thursday evening (Oct. 16) and will strengthen into a typhoon Friday as it moves toward Taiwan.
The typhoon will pass through Luzon Island and Bashi Channel by Sunday (Oct. 19), potentially creating a stationary front over Taiwan's northeastern coast when interacting with northeast monsoon. This development could produce localized heavy rain in northern Taiwan, Yilan, and Hualien, while central and southern regions will see highs not exceeding 30 degrees Celsius (86°F).
The northeast monsoon will strengthen by evening Saturday, causing increased rainfall in northeastern regions and Yilan, creating unstable weather conditions across northern and eastern Taiwan. Before afternoon, rain will remain limited with sporadic showers only in Yilan, Keelung's northern coast, Greater Taipei's mountains, Hualien, Taitung, and Hengchun. ◼
