TAIPEI (TVBS News) — An EVA Air (長榮航空) flight attendant, surnamed Sun (孫), was laid to rest Tuesday (Oct. 14) in Taichung's Donghai (東海) district, following her tragic passing on Oct. 11 after a Milan-Taipei shift. The 34-year-old's death has intensified scrutiny over airline workplace safety and crew health management.
The funeral ceremony began at 8:05 a.m. with colleagues offering flowers and handmade cards while tearfully comforting each other. Sun's sister urged EVA Air to review workplace policies, citing unhealthy workplace culture, while requesting protection from online harassment targeting the cabin crew. Sun's sister later carried the ashes home accompanied by their younger sister.
EVA Air dispatched representatives to the ceremony, informing the family that a comprehensive investigation is underway. A passenger reported Sun repeatedly complained of feeling unwell but was ordered to continue meal service without contacting Medlink, the medical support system. The cabin chief allegedly declined Sun's ambulance request upon landing, citing personal expense concerns.
The allegations have drawn widespread public criticism and mounting pressure on EVA Air to address cabin crew working conditions and health management policies. Sun's parents remained silent about the incident throughout the ceremony. ◼
