TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Cheng Li-wen (鄭麗文) leads the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨), Taiwan's main opposition party, chairmanship race with 49.1% support ahead of Saturday's (Oct. 18) election. An ETtoday News (ETtoday新聞雲) poll released Tuesday (Oct. 14) shows Cheng ahead of rivals Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) at 21.3% and Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) at 21%.
Party members show strong confidence in Cheng's victory prospects, with 50.8% expressing optimism about her election chances. Hau and Lo trail significantly in perceived electability at 25.4% and 14.9% respectively. Cheng dominates favorability ratings at 72.9%, followed by Lo at 68.4% and Hau at 42.7%.
Members view Cheng as most capable of revitalizing the party, with 48.9% believing she can restore Kuomintang power without political baggage. Lo and Hau received 19.4% and 17.3% support respectively for party renewal capabilities. The survey reveals 98.3% of members demand substantial reform, citing low youth support and weak media engagement as critical issues. ◼
