Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) announced the figures during Tuesday's (Oct. 14) monthly public safety meeting, emphasizing the city's enhanced anti-crime efforts.
Hou commended bank staff and police officers for their contributions to crime prevention efforts. The mayor identified fraud, organized crime, drug trafficking, illegal firearms, and gambling as key public safety priorities. New Taipei City signed a memorandum with E.Sun Bank (玉山銀行) and the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office (新北地方檢察署), Taiwan's local prosecution authority, to strengthen anti-fraud cooperation.
Authorities intercepted NT$10.6 million (around US$345,000) from land master real estate mortgage fraud schemes this year. Officials plan continued inter-agency collaborations to create a fraud-free financial environment. Fang Yang-ning (方仰寧), Chief of the New Taipei City Police Department, praised the city's crime prevention achievements.
Fang announced activation of a "fast notification, fast response, fast handling" mechanism responding to recent random assaults in other counties and cities. The police department will institutionalize a metro police team in January (Jan. 2026), focusing on public safety along metro lines. The initiative aims to ensure citizen safety on public transportation systems. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$30.683)
