TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologist Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) indicated on Monday (Oct. 13) that tropical disturbance 96W may develop into a tropical depression on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 14). It could intensify into this year's 24th typhoon, Fengshen (風神), by Friday (Oct. 17) or Saturday (Oct. 18), before potentially moving toward the Bashi Channel (巴士海峽).
Chia noted that Southern Taiwan, particularly south of Tainan, will experience brief showers on Tuesday (Oct. 14) morning, while sporadic afternoon showers will occur in central and southern mountain areas, Hualien, and Taitung. Scattered afternoon showers are also expected in mountain areas south of Hsinchu and Miaoli on Wednesday (Oct. 15) through Thursday (Oct. 16). Friday afternoon will bring sporadic showers to mountain areas south of Hsinchu, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung.
Brief showers will occur on the north coast on Saturday from Keelung to Yilan. In the afternoon, Hualien, Taitung, and the southern mountain areas, including Nantou, will experience scattered rain. Chia explained that easterly winds will dominate before Friday, bringing scattered afternoon showers.
Between Sunday (Oct. 19) and Oct. 22, the second wave of the northeast monsoon might affect the region, significantly lowering temperatures from the north of Hsinchu and Yilan. By Sunday, the northeast monsoon may again influence the area, with noticeable temperature drops north of Hsinchu and Yilan. Brief showers are likely in Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung, with scattered rain extending into Oct. 22.
