TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (外交部) and Ministry of Interior (内政部) announced on Monday (Oct. 13) that New Zealand has opened its eGate system to Taiwanese travelers. This makes it the eighth country to do so, following the U.S., South Korea, Australia, Italy, Germany, Singapore, and Malaysia.
New Zealand has also introduced the New Zealand Traveler Online Declaration, encouraging Taiwanese travelers to complete the entry declaration form within 24 hours before their flight. Upon arrival, they can use the fast-track eGate service. The Ministry noted that this initiative aims to streamline the entry process for Taiwanese visitors.
Taiwan is also considering granting eGate access to New Zealand e-passport holders at Taiwanese airports, with implementation expected between late November and December. This move aligns with Taiwan's principle of reciprocity as it seeks to foster closer ties with New Zealand.
The Ministry emphasized that Taiwan and New Zealand share similar values, including democracy, freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. With 60,000 visits exchanged annually, the reciprocal eGate access is expected to facilitate people-to-people exchanges and strengthen cooperation in various fields.
