TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan hosted the 2025 Global Hakka Culture Conference (2025全球客家文化會議) Monday (Oct. 13), bringing together representatives from 24 countries and 77 overseas Hakka organizations. The Hakka Affairs Council (客家委員會) launched the event at the Grand Hotel (圓山大飯店) with nearly 400 global participants. The conference theme "Taiwan Leads the Way in Global Hakka" emphasizes cultural preservation and innovation.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) attended the event, emphasizing the government's commitment to Hakka cultural preservation globally. Cho advocated that "every ministry is a Ministry of Culture" and announced plans to promote "every season as a tourism season" over four years. He highlighted establishing a new sports ministry this year to achieve universal sports participation goals across Taiwan.
Ku Hsiu-fei (古秀妃), chairperson of the Hakka Affairs Council (客家委員會), addressed challenges Taiwan faces from its "hostile neighbor" during the conference opening. She expressed confidence in Taiwanese and Hakka community resilience, stating they will not be intimidated by external pressures. Ku emphasized their determination to pass on peace to future generations despite ongoing regional tensions.
The Global Hakka Culture Conference has served as a vital platform for cultural preservation since its 2002 inception, connecting communities worldwide. The annual event fosters international collaboration and cultural exchange among global Hakka populations through structured dialogue and programs.
