TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Stock Exchange (台灣證券交易所) plunged 148.27 points Wednesday (Oct. 8), closing at 27,063.68 amid market volatility. Analysts attributed the decline to Oracle's (甲骨文) AI cloud business reporting profit margins below expectations, triggering fluctuations and testing the critical 27,000-point level.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC, 台積電) mirrored the broader market decline, closing at NT$1,415 (around US$47.17), down NT$20 (around US$0.67). The electronics sector index decreased 0.84% while the semiconductor index fell 1.06%. The financial sector index rose 0.52%, and the over-the-counter index closed at 265.35, up 0.19%.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (Foxconn, 鴻海) and Delta Electronics (台達電) experienced declines, closing at NT$225 (around US$7.50) and NT$981 (around US$32.70), respectively. MediaTek Inc. (聯發科) bucked the trend with a NT$10 (around US$0.33) gain, closing at NT$1,335 (around US$44.50). Quanta Computer Inc. (廣達) decreased NT$2.5 (around US$0.08), ending at NT$306 (around US$10.20).
Investors now focus on upcoming financial disclosures as market attention shifts to earnings announcements. Largan Precision Co. (大立光) plans to reveal its earnings call Thursday (Oct. 9), capturing significant market interest.
