TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Government (台北市政府) proposed a new T12 site to NVIDIA Wednesday (Oct. 8) to resolve the stalled Taiwan headquarters project. Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) expressed optimism about integrating the site despite multiple landowner challenges. The proposal follows the expired memorandum of understanding with Shin Kong Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (新光人壽).
NVIDIA initially planned to establish its Taiwan headquarters at T17 and T18 bases in Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (北投士林科技園區), a major tech hub in northern Taipei. Disagreements with Shin Kong Life Insurance over land-use rights complicated the project significantly. Company representatives agreed to review the T12 site as an alternative location.
Minister of the Interior Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) confirmed the ministry approved Taipei City Government's request under the Land Expropriation Act (土地徵收條例) in mid-July. The city government aims to assist NVIDIA in consolidating the T12 site involving several private landowners. The legal framework enables the city to facilitate land acquisition for the tech giant.
Lee emphasized Taipei City Government will support NVIDIA's integration efforts according to relevant laws and regulations. The deputy mayor confirmed the city stands ready to assist further if NVIDIA pursues the T12 site option. Lee noted the government remains open to discussing alternative locations including Taipei Songshan Airport's southern land. ◼
